Technology of Gene Expression Profiles Filtering Based on Wavelet Analysis

By Sergii Babichev Jiri Skvor Jiri Fiser Volodymyr Lytvynenko

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2018.04.01, Pub. Date: 8 Apr. 2018

The paper presents the technology of gene expression profiles filtering based on the wavelet analysis methods. A structural block-chart of the wavelet-filtering process, which involves concurrent calculation of Shannon entropy for both the filtered data and allocated noise component is proposed. Simulation of the wavelet-filtering process was performed with the use of orthogonal and biorthogonal wavelets on different levels of wavelet decomposition and with the use of various values of the thresholding coefficient. Result of the simulation has allowed us to propose the technology to determine the optimal parameters of the wavelet filter based on complex analysis of the filtered data and allocated noise component.

Decision Support System Performance-Based Evaluation of Village Government using AHP and TOPSIS Methods: Secang Sub-district of Magelang Regency as a Case Study

By Vickky Listyaningsih Ema Utami

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2018.04.03, Pub. Date: 8 Apr. 2018

The increasing of village grants provider growth opportunities for villages every year. The Reliable performance of village governance is the main factor that determines the development of a village. In Secang, there are still many rural governance performances that are not optimal yet, therefore we need a system of performance evaluation of the village government. Decision support systems with a combination of AHP and TOPSIS models can be used to help evaluating performance village Government. AHP method is used to perform the weighting of the criteria and TOPSIS methods to make a ranking system of the performance evaluation of village government. AHP was chosen because it has many advantages of computation weighting while TOPSIS was efficient and able to measure the relative performance in a simple mathematical form. One advantage of the system that was built is the dynamic nature of the assessment criteria used for the calculation process, with menus for assessment criteria period the user can add or reduce the assessment criteria in accordance with the requirements or regulations. Output of DSS Village Government Performance Evaluation is village government performance ratings that can be used as a consideration in determining rewards and assistance to the village from the sub-district. From the test results on ranking and prototype, 86.67% of users agree that the prototype can be implemented and used to evaluate the performance of village government in the Secang sub-district.

Fuzzy-based User Behavior Characterization to Detect HTTP-GET Flood Attacks

By Karanpreet Singh Paramvir Singh Krishan Kumar

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2018.04.04, Pub. Date: 8 Apr. 2018

Internet was designed to serve the basic requirement of data transfer between systems. The security perspectives were therefore overlooked due to which the Internet remains vulnerable to a variety of attacks. Among all the possible attacks, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is one of the eminent threats that target the availability of the online services to the intended clients. Now-a-days, attackers target application layer of the network stack to orchestrate attacks having a high degree of sophistication. GET flood attacks have been very much prevalent in recent years primarily due to advancement of bots allowing impersonating legitimate client behavior. Differentiating between a human client and a bot is therefore necessary to mitigate an attack. This paper introduces a mitigation framework based on Fuzzy Control System that takes as input two novel detection parameters. These detection parameters make use of clients' behavioral characteristic to measure their respective legitimacy. We design an experimental setup that incorporates two widely used benchmark web logs (Clarknet and WorldCup) to build legitimate and attack datasets. Further, we use these datasets to assess the performance of the proposed through well-known evaluation metrics. The results obtained during this work point towards the efficiency of our proposed system to mitigate a wide range of GET flood attack types.

Comparative Performance Evaluation of Entropic Thresholding Algorithms Based on Shannon, Renyi and Tsallis Entropy Definitions for Electrical Capacitance Tomography Measurement Systems

By Alfred J. Mwambela

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2018.04.05, Pub. Date: 8 Apr. 2018

The concept of entropy as a measure of information has been extensively applied in information theory and related fields. The complex nature of information has resulted in some proposed entropy definitions. In image processing, the entropy concept has been used in developing thresholding techniques based on maximum entropy principles for image segmentation, enhancement and object detection purposes. In this article, entropy definitions are analysed to establish their relationship and after that evaluate their performance in image thresholding. Static simulated data from Electrical Capacitance Tomography measurement system for annular and stratified flows in multiphase hydrocarbons production has been used. Performance evaluation results of thresholding algorithms using Renyi entropy has shown to improve the measurements, particularly for stratified flow regimes. The improvement is solely based on the entropy definition, and it has been observed the introduced controlling parameters do not affect its performance. Renyi entropic thresholding algorithm is relatively robust as it is independent of the controlling parameter q and the grey level resolution. Therefore, there is the potential possibility of using Renyi entropic thresholding to improve measurements in hydrocarbons flow measurement using Electrical Capacitance Tomography measurement system.

Experimental Validation of Contextual Variables for Research Resources Recommender System

By Folasade O. Isinkaye Yetunde O. Folajimi

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2018.04.06, Pub. Date: 8 Apr. 2018

Context-aware recommender system (CARS) is a promising technique for recommending research resources to users (researchers) by predicting their preferences (resources) under different situations. If the contextual information given to such a system is inappropriate, it will certainly have a negative effect on the nature of recommendation output generated by the system as well as making the system to have high dimensionality complexity. Currently, several CARS recommendation algorithms have been developed but they have failed to bring to bear the means and importance of experimentally validating the contextual information used in different domains of application of CARS. Hence, this paper experimentally validates the contextual variables in the domain of research resources by splitting a research resource (article) into three major sections (introduction, review and methodology). These sections are the contextual variables validated in order to authenticate their viability as context that could be used in recommending research resources based on the specific section of an article a researcher is interested in. The result of our experiment shows that irrespective of the domain of articles, journal articles have higher variability in their citations at introduction, very significant variability between the articles in the review and high variability in the methodology contextual variable respectively than the articles in the proceeding under the three contextual variables. This experiment shows that these three variables could be used as context .It also shows the percentage of splitting that could be used within journals and proceedings for context-aware research resources recommendations.

A Parallel Soft Computing Model for Identifying Lost Student in an Incomplete and Imprecise Environment

By Mahendra Kumar Gourisaria Susil Rayaguru Satya Ranjan Dash Sudhansu Shekhar Patra

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2018.04.07, Pub. Date: 8 Apr. 2018

The numbers of educational institutions are growing at par with the lost student rate in a country like India. When a missing student is found we need to identify the student on the strength of some common parameter like student name, his/her institution name, branch or class etc. But we never get accurate and complete information in most of the cases to identify or recognize a lost student. In such a situation, a soft computing model can be a striking choice to track a lost student on the basis of partial information. In the past we propose soft computing model for the same. This paper proposes a more optimized parallel soft computing model which takes half of the time taken by the earlier single thread model for identifying a lost student on the basis of imprecise and partial information. The system is tested meticulously on a database of 50000 records and an efficiency of 94% is obtained.

Survey on Answer Validation for Indonesian Question Answering System (IQAS)

By Abdiansah Abdiansah Azhari Azhari Anny K. Sari

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2018.04.08, Pub. Date: 8 Apr. 2018

Research on Question Answering System (QAS) has been done mainly in English. Unfortunately, for Indonesian, it is still rarely explored whereas Indonesian is the official language used more than 250 million people. Research in the area of Indonesian Question Answering System (IQAS) began in 2005s, and since then only few number of IQAS have been developed. One of the important issues in IQAS is Answer Validation (AV), which is a system that can determine the correctness of QAS. To identify the future scope of research in this area, the need of comprehensive survey on IQAS and AV arises naturally. The goals of this survey are to find the cutting-edge method used in AV and to prove that AV has not been implemented on IQAS. Based on the results, we suggest new opportunities and research challenges for IQAS community.
